Conversational AI for HR: turn a question into usable evidence

Understand the different jobs a workforce conversation can do: answer, collect, clarify and start an authorised process.

A useful workforce conversation ends with something the team can use: an answer with a source, an updated profile, a clarified requirement or a next step with an owner. Its value depends on the question, the information available and what the participant is allowed to do.

01

Start with the job the conversation must do

An employee asking about a process needs an answer grounded in the organisation's authorised material. A consultant updating availability needs a structured record with dates. A manager describing next quarter's work needs a way to distinguish confirmed demand from an assumption. These are different conversations, even when they share an interface.

Define the intended output before writing the opening question. Agree what a complete answer looks like, how an unclear response will be followed up and when the conversation should hand over to a person.

02

Keep answers connected to their context

A statement such as ‘I can lead a programme’ is useful as a starting point. Ask about the programme, the person's contribution and when the work happened. Store the response alongside its source and date rather than silently turning it into verified proficiency.

Missing answers should remain visible. A participant who cannot supply an example needs a different follow-up from someone who has not yet replied. The campaign can collect those distinctions so reviewers know where to spend their attention.

03

Separate participant conversations from administration

EVA's public enquiry conversation helps a visitor explore an appropriate scope. Participant conversations collect or clarify information in a configured client programme. Administrative work with EVA SuperBot helps authorised teams shape campaigns, analyses, matching and workflows. Access to one is not access to the others.

For multinational teams, agree shared definitions and local language needs together. Customer Success and Business Analysis colleagues work alongside the client to test questions and check whether the resulting records support the intended decision.

04

Connect the conversation to the next decision

Skills evidence can inform Competency Mapping; team responses can feed Team & Leadership Analytics; demand and availability can inform Workforce Planning. Requirements and candidate answers support Talent Matching. Configured workflows can route a completed record, request review or execute an authorised action.

The next step should be visible to the participant and the operating team. A helpful answer should not imply that an application, assignment or approval has already been completed.

One interface. Three different outcomes.

Choose the question and see the evidence and handover it needs.

What we know

‘I can start in October, three days a week.’

How to read it

Availability needs a start date, an end or review date, and capacity. It is not evidence of capability.

The next useful action

Confirm the dates and save the capacity record for the configured planning or matching process.

Update availability‘I can start in October, three days a week.’Confirm the dates and save the capacity record for the configured planning or matching process.
Describe experience‘I led a regional launch last year.’Ask a relevant follow-up and keep the supporting response attached to the profile.
Ask a policy question‘Who approves my project assignment?’Use the authorised source or hand over when the source does not settle the question.

Illustrative example. These controls explain the method; they do not access client records or execute workforce actions.

Put it into practice

Design the conversation backwards from the record or decision your team needs.
